bughawdotcom wrote on Jun 20 there were a lot of gringos living in mazatlan. it seems more commercialized than puerto vallarta or ixtapa/zihuatanejo. but then again, mazatlan is the closest to california. interesting comment you have. mr. thomas, about multiple sins. i think the mexicans are just more aware of their history. filipinos are more westernized because they were colonized by the americans, and the 'real' sins of the U.S. were not printed on the history text books. i can go on and on about 'multiple sins' --- but not here, and not now. i am still waiting for the day when 'they' return the balangiga bells back to the philippines. one very good book to read is "In Our Image: America's Empire in the Philippines" by Stanley Karnow. |
hermanotomas wrote on Jun 17 Mazatlan is a beautiful place. I lived there for 2 months and was considering making it permanent. But, being a nortoamericano I was a bit sensitive because of the multiple sins of the U.S. against these people and I began to feel uncomfortable. Shortly after I came to the Philippines. I've been her four years and I have no regrets. |
